Farmer's Market

This morning I went to the Farmer's Market at Shoppers Square Mall because my friend Christy had a booth there. While there I decided to buy some produce. When I went before work I bought from the booth to the right of Christy four peaches, two for Christy and two for me; and two heirloom tomatoes, one red and one yellow ($5 total). When I went back to visit her again on my lunch break I bought a bag of garlic from the booth on the other side of her ($2 at least 15 cloves of garlic in there), and the people I bought the fruit from gave me a little watermelon! I took pictures, only one peach remained because two were for Christy and I ate the other one for breakfast! I thought it was quite fun, and I love the farmer's market though I won't shop there regularly because even though it supports local farmers and it is better for the environment and all of that stuff, I am on a budget and can't afford to spend five dollars on 4 peaches and two tomatoes! I must say though the garlic was very affordable and I bought it pretty much entirely to help out the farmer. He was an old guy and seemed very nice and a little sad when people walked by and didn't want to buy his garlic. Since I was downwind from his stand I could smell the garlic, it smelled really good, so I gave in and bought some. I didn't actually need it at all since we have two HUGE cloves in the fridge already, so I tried sharing it with my coworkers. Out of 15 cloves I only brought home 8!

They closed one of our Farmer's Markets here in town. I was sad, I never even got to go. And the other one I'm not too impressed with. Maybe it will be better soon, I plan on going on Saturday (it's only once a week). Last time I got four pounds of cherries for $10. That was cheaper than the grocery store, and they were very tasty.

Those are heirloom tomatoes KareBear, which is probably one of the reasons they were so expensive. Try and find heirlooms at the grocery store, and they'll cost a pretty penny too.
I have a Farmer's Market tomorrow, but I liked the one in Mad-town better.

Yah. You did buy specialty tomatoes. It was really sweet of you to share the garlic with your co-workers. Garlic does keep almost indefinitely in the refrigerator though. Our farmer's market doesn't have much to offer. It is sad. Wish there was something closer and bigger here. We just found out that they have one in Harrisburg on Friday at the TSC. We hope we can go there one day. We like helping the local farmers too. Read "Animal, Vegetable, Miracle" if you haven't already. It is a great book.
